Level 3 Award for Special Educational Needs Coordinators in Early Years Settings

Outline

This is an exciting opportunity for Early Years SENCos to gain an additional Level 3 Qualification and develop an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Code of Practice and the importance and complexity of their role as SENCo. It will also look at the way in which we work in Somerset, giving a clear overview of the range of professionals and resources available, the model of provision and the processes for accessing additional support.
This New qualification aims to:
  • explore the role and responsibilities of the Special Educational Needs Coordinator in an early year setting
  • understand the strategies and techniques for supporting children and their families
  • increase knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice

Description

The Early Years Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) qualification is for a Level 3 practitioner in a private, voluntary, independent setting or LA nursery. This new qualification has been developed to support early years practitioners to gain accreditation for the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to perform the Early Years SENCo role effectively.
The Early Years SENCo has a key role in supporting colleagues and coordinating the response of the setting to children with SEN as set out in the Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice.
As part of the award, practitioners complete 2 mandatory accredited SEND modules to support their professional development and to raise the status of the role of SENCo within the sector.
