Thank you for your interest in becoming a supply teacher within North Somerset. We are unable to register you to work in all schools / academies within North Somerset. A list of available schools can be found on the right hand side under 'List of schools for supply work', currently we can only provide registration for work within Primary or Special schools. If you would like to work in a specific establishment and it is not listed, please contact the school / academy directly.
To register for supply opportunities you will need to complete the Registration Documents at the bottom of this section. Once all of the forms have been completed please email them to: firstname.lastname@example.org. Once received the HR Service Centre will then contact you via email to make an appointment to continue your registration application.
Completion of the initial registration forms must not be regarded as an offer or guarantee of employment, implied or otherwise. The responsibility for engaging supply teachers rests with the individual school and there are no guarantees of any supply teaching work once registered. Supply registration will close over the summer break, between 1 July to 30 September. Applications and registration documents received on or before 30 June will continue to be processed, however new applications received between these dates will not be processed. Registration will reopen on 1 October. SUPPLY TEACHING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How long does the registration process take?
There is no set timescale for registration as it depends upon individual circumstances. As a general rule we would advise it takes between 4 12 weeks to complete the whole process. Until you have received your confirmation of registration you will be unable to carry out supply work.
Are there any registration fees to pay?
If you have not signed up to the DBS Update Service and require a new DBS check, you will need to pay a registration fee of £54 (£44 for the DBS check plus a £10 administration fee).
How do I obtain a DBS check as part of my registration?
Once you have sent us your completed registration documents, we will email you a link to complete an online DBS check. As part of your check you will need to visit our offices in Castlewood, Clevedon, North Somerset to show us your ID documents.
If you have signed up to the DBS Update Service we will still need to see the original copy of your DBS certificate and will also ask you to sign a declaration giving us authorisation to check your details online. Please note; to use the Update Service your original check must show only ‘Children’s Workforce’. Once registered, can I work in any school / academy within North Somerset?
No, if you register with us you will only be able to work at certain schools. A list of which can be found at the bottom of this section. If you wish to work within a school / academy not listed, you will need to contact them directly.
What will my rate of pay be for supply work?
Rate of payment for supply work can vary from school to school and is dependant on a number of factors. We advise you to agree a payment rate directly with the school before you undertake any supply work.
I have completed my first supply claim. When will I receive payment?
Payment for supply work is made a month in arrears. The school will also need to submit your claim by the monthly payroll deadline.
I have not completed any supply work for some time. Do I need to re-register?
If you have not worked as a supply teacher in one of the schools listed within the last three months, you will need to provide us with an updated DBS check, either via the update service or by completion of a new check.
If you have not completed any supply work within the last rolling 6 months, you will be automatically removed from our register and will need to complete the application process again.
